Department of Science and Technology (DOST) launched the Project NOAH in Marikina this Friday, attended by no less than President Benigno Aquino III.
Project NOAH or Nationwide Operational Assessment of Hazards is a joint project of DOST, PAGASA and other government agencies and private organizations to monitor the weather conditions and floods around the country. It is a website which aims to be a portal of more accurate, integrated, and responsive disaster prevention and mitigation system, especially in high-risk areas throughout the Philippines.
According to Director Raymund Liboro, DOST spokesperson, Project NOAH’s main objective is to give a 6-hour lead-time warning to vulnerable communities during the times of extreme floods.
In Project Noah website, user can check the probability of rain in certain areas in the country. It also has flood maps, rain gauges and other tools very helpful in monitoring the weather conditions.
