1998: A senator for six years, Gloria-Macapagal Arroyo ran for the vice presidency with Jose de Venecia Jr. as president under the administration party led by former President Fidel V. Ramos.
1998: Vice President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo started her term with former President Joseph Estrada at the helm.
2000: She decided to quit from the Cabinet and called for Estrada's resignation.
January 2001: Private prosecutors walked out of an impeachment trial after pro-Estrada Senatorsblocked the opening of an envelope that would reveal evidence against Estrada. This sparked anotherPeople Power Revolution, which forced Estrada to leave his post and Arroyo to succeed him.

2005: The now famous "Hello, Garci" wiretapped recordings of an alleged cheating against Arroyo emerged, which triggered massive protests.
