Actor Joem Bascon denies being gay
MANILA, Philippines - Actor Joem Bascon has denied rumors about him being gay.
"Alam mo ganoon sa showbiz, it's either you are gay or pumatol ka sa gay," Bascon told abs-cbnNEWS.com on Wednesday.
Instead of ranting over the rumor, Bascon said he has chosen to just accept it since it's part of show business.
He also stressed that he has nothing against gay men.
"For me, wala, wala akong masama. Kasi everyone knows yung sexuality ko at [kung] ano ang preferred ko talaga sa buhay. Kahit ano naman ang ma-isyu sa akin, OK lang naman."
Rumors about him being gay started after he broke up with former sweetheart Meryll Soriano.
Bascon said he never had the chance to clear the air since he has been away for a while.
"Hindi ko kayang mag-dwell sa past relationship ko. Ako kasi yung tipong nadidiskaril ako sa babae kapag nagkaroon ako ng problema talaga, yun ang weakness ko," he said.
Bascon said he is currently in a relationship with Tricia Uy.
"Yun, happy kami, 11 months na kami," he said.
Gay role
Bascon said he is also open to playing gay characters if given a chance.
"Right now, para na din sa growth ng character ko as (an actor), why not? Para to see the third sex on a different perspective. I think it's the right time to do roles like that."
Asked if he will set limits on doing gay roles, he replied: "No I won't, [no] limitations for that...kumbaga, if Coco [Martin] can do it, if Baron [Geisler] can do it [gay role], then why not Joem Bascon?"
Bascon is part of the ABS-CBN TV drama series "Nasaan Ka Elisa?"
